Here is a thing I believe: We cannot give our children certainty. But we can give them beauty. And that makes all the difference.

I was a kid with a lot of big questions about life, death, mortality and the meaning of it all. I have spent my life exploring these questions, and when I had kids of my own I was dismayed to learn that there still weren’t a lot of resources to help parents respond to kids’ big questions with concrete imagery as well as wonder and scientific grounding. In 2022 I started writing the book I wanted to have as a parent, and that wish I had been given as a child.

The result is a mashup of poetry and particle physics that is both comfortingly concrete and full of wonder, and the artwork of Isabella Grott has brought the whole thing to life in stunning illustrations.

I could not be more grateful that Skinner House Press saw the place this book could have in the world, supporting children and parents in UU, atheist & agnostic, spiritual-but-not-religious, and other progressive religious contexts to meet little people’s big questions with beauty, comfort, and awe.
